Transcript:How to Make Chile Rellenos Breakfast CasseroleHi, I'm Krystyna Rittichier with About.com. Today I am going to show you how to make chile rellenos breakfast casserole. This recipe can be found found in the Southern food section on About.com.
To Make Chili Rellenos Breakfast Casserole, You Will Need:
- 6 slices bread
- 1 1/2 cups (6 ounces) shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 1/2 cups (6 ounces) shredded monterey jack cheese
- 1 4 oz can drained chopped green chiles
- 6 eggs beaten
- 2 cups milk
- 2 teaspoons paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon dried whole oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon dry mustard.
Prepare the Greased Casserole Dish With Bread and CheeseFirst you want to take a 13 by 9 inch casserole dish and grease the sides with butter. You can use lowfat cooking spray if you want. Lay the bread in the bottom of the dish in an even layer. Homemade bread always tastes better, so that’s what we’ll be using. You can use ordinary store bought white or wheat bread for this recipe. Sprinkle all of the cheddar and monteray jack cheese over the bread slices. Top the cheese with the chopped chiles.
Mix the Remaining Ingredients Together and Pour Into the Casserole DishPut all of the remaining ingredients in a large mixing bowl, and whisk them all together. Pour the entire mixture over the other ingredients. Cover the dish and refrigerate the casserole overnight. You want the casserole to chill for 8 to 10 hours total. Letting all those flavors mix together. When you take the casserole out of the refrigerator, you need to let it warm up a little bit before baking it. Leave the casserole on the counter for 30 minutes.
Bake the Chili Rellenos Breakfast Casserole and EnjoyWhile you are waiting, preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Bake the casserole uncovered for 50 minutes. Serve the dish immediately when it is finished cooking. This casserole will puff up as it is baking, and then it will settle as it cools.
