Transcript:How to Make Cabbage Rolls
Hey guys, Greyson Ferguson here with About.com. Today we are going to make stuffed cabbage rolls.Ingredients for Cabbage Rolls
To start, you need:- 12 cabbage leaves
- 1 cup of cooked rice
- 1 beaten egg
- 1/4 cup of milk
- 1 cup of chopped onion
- 1 pound of ground turkey
- 1-1/4 teaspoons salt
- 1-1/4 teaspoons pepper
- 8 ounces of tomato sauce
- 1 tablespoon of brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce
Prepare the Filling for the Cabbage Rolls
Boil a large pot of water and add in the cabbage leaves. Boil the leaves for two to five minutes and remove from heat. This helps tenderize the cabbage, making it easier to roll.Mix the rice, egg, milk, onion, ground turkey, salt and pepper into a bowl. Although white rice is generally used, you can substitute brown rice or a wild rice instead. You can also use a ground beef or ground chicken instead of turkey.
In a separate container mix together the rest of the ingredients. This acts as the sauce for the cabbage.
Make the Cabbage Rolls
Place about a quarter cup of the meat mixture into the center of a cabbage leaf then roll. Tuck the ends of the leaf under, to prevent the meat from falling out during the cooking process, and place in either a slow cooker or large pan.Repeat the process with the rest of the leaves and cover the cooking device with a lid. Set either the slow cooker or pan on low heat and let cook for eight to nine hours. Remove from heat, serve and enjoy.
