Why Make Broccoli Salad With RaisinsEven if your guests aren't broccoli fans, they'll love this combination of vegetables and fruits. Raisins make this broccoli salad extra special. We're adding bacon to this class salad too.
How to Prepare the Broccoli for Broccoli Salad With RaisinsBegin by preparing your fresh broccoli. Take 2 large stalks of washed broccoli and cut and dispose of the large base stem. Then take a small knife and slice away all leaves and smaller stems. Cut broccoli into smaller stalks. Then lightly steam the broccoli for 1-2 minutes. Rinse the cooked broccoli with cold water for crunchy results. Take smaller stems and slice into ½ inch pieces to add to your salad. Continue cutting down the broccoli stalks into smaller bite size pieces.
Additional Ingredients for Broccoli Salad With RaisinsHere are the ingredients that you'll need:
- 6 cups of broccoli florets
- 6 slices of bacon
- 3/4 cup raisins. If you’re looking for opportunities to cut down on calories, you can cut the raisins in half. Also consider using currants, which are smaller, or other dried fruit such as dried blueberries.
- ½ cup sliced almonds or any other of your favorite nuts including walnuts or pecans
- ¼ cup diced onion
- ¼ cup sunflower seeds
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt – regular or nonfat½ cup mayonnaise – also regular or reduced calorie
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tbsp. orange juice
