Transcript:How to Make Banana Split CakeHi, my name is Georgia Scott. I am here for About.com and today we're making a no-bake banana split cake.
Ingredients for the Banana Split CakeFor the crust, you need:
- 9 Graham Crackers, crushed
- 5-1/2 tablespoons of melted butter
- 3 tablespoons of granulated sugar
- 1 8 oz. package of softened cream cheese
- 1 stick of butter softened
- 2 cups of powered sugar
- 1 16 oz. canned of unsweetened pineapples, well drained
- 2 ripe bananas, sliced
- 1 8 oz. container of whipped cream or topping
- 1/4 cup Maraschino cherries, sliced in half
- 1/4 cup of walnuts
Make the Crust for the Banana Split CakeSo, we are going to add the crushed graham crackers, 3 tablespoons of sugar, and 5-1/2 tablespoons of melted butter. So, just mix that all together and it should be a little crumbly. You don't want it too thin. You might be tempted to use a little extra butter but that just makes the crust a little greasy.
You just want to push it around the edges being careful to get the corners because otherwise it can get a little thick. Then, you want to stick it into a pre-heated oven, pre-heated to 350 degrees. Just stick it in the oven about 5-10 minutes just to get it to set.
Make the Filling for the Banana Split CakeNow, we're going to start on the filling -- creaming together the butter and cream cheese. Once everything is nice and blended together, add the powered sugar. This takes a little bit of elbow grease. You can use an electric mixer and that will help with the little lumps you are going to get from the powdered sugar.
Now, we will put the filling into the cooled crust. You just want to smooth it out. Again, a spatula is your best friend for this. And, then just spread the pineapples. You want to get it spread over the entire dish. Then, make circles around the pie with on top of the pineapples (with the sliced bananas).
Top the Banana Split Cake With Whipped Cream, Cherries and NutsThe next step is putting whipped cream on top of the bananas. Just plop it down. You want to plop it in really nice generous plops. It's best if you just start from the center and just work your way down to the edge.
The next step is the maraschino cherries. When you slice them, and plain jarred maraschino cherries are fine. When you slice them you want to have them resting on a paper towel just to absorb the brine and the food coloring. Walnuts are really the perfect nut for this and if you get walnut halves, and break them up yourself. Bigger pieces of walnuts are also really nice. You just get a nice and refreshing dessert.
