Ingredients for Beef Stroganoff

For this recipe you will need:
  • 1 pound of top sirloin, cut thin long strips
  • 6 Tbsp butter
  • 1 sliced onion
  • 1/2 pound sliced mushrooms
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • Salt and Pepper
  • 3 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp. mustard
  • 1 c. of sour cream at room temperature

Brown the Sliced Beef

First, melt three tablespoons of butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Then, increase the heat to medium high and add the strips of beef. Try to cook the beef quickly, so it browns on each side, but be careful not to burn the butter. Once both sides are browned, remove the beef and set it aside in a separate bowl.

Cook Sliced Onion

Next, reduce the heat back to medium and add the sliced onion. Cook the onion for a minute or two, and use your spatula to pick up any pieces of browned meat from the pan, so all the flavors are picked up by the onion. Then, add the onions into the bowl with the beef.

Saute Mushroom

Now, melt some more butter if needed, and then add the mushrooms to the pan. Saute the mushrooms for about four minutes.

Mix the Rest of the Ingredients for Beef Stroganoff

Next, bring the heat down to low and season the mushrooms with the ketchup, then the Worcestershire sauce, the mustard, a pinch of salt and a pinch of pepper. Then add the sour cream. Careful not to bring it too hot, or the sour cream might curdle. Now, mix it all together.

Finally, stir in the beef and onions. Serve over egg noodles or rice.
