Transcript:How to Turn on a Snowboard

Hi I’m Dylan Sanford, a snowboard instructor at Killington, Vermont, here for About.com. Today we’re going to learn how to turn our snowboard.

Point Snowboard Nose Downhill

If you’re new to snowboarding it might be hard to get the nose of your snowboard pointed down the hill. But it’s also equally difficult to get your board pointed back across the hill. There’s four easy steps.

Four Step Turns

What you’ll want to do is first bend that front leg. Flatten the board. That’ll put your board down into the fall line and step number three is look where you want to go and push on your toes or heels. That’ll bring your board from straight up and down the hill to across the board.

This is step number one is bend your front leg. Step number two is flatten the board. Step number three is looking across, step number four is right here as we push on our toes or heels.

Practice on the Heelside

Now, if we wanted to go to our heelside turn, we’d do those same motions all over again. Bending that front leg, flattening the board, looking across where we want to go and pushing on our heels.
