Transcript:How to Rail Stand

Hi, I'm Gregory Dwyer with azskateboarding.com at the kids that rip skateboard school in Mesa, Arizona, here with About.com. Let me show you the rail stand.

Attempting to Do a Rail Stand

To attempt the rail stand you're going to have to have even pressure on both legs, press on the toes, to lift up the board and then you're going to have to catch it with your heels. A very important thing to remember while doing the rail stand is to watch your balance with both feet, even that out, stick out your knees and stick your chest out to throw your shoulders over your heels. Posture is very key in doing the rail stand.

Getting Out of the Rail Stand

To get out of the rail stand you're going to press back on your toes and catch it with the arch of your foot.

Tips for Trying a Rail Stand

I would suggest you wear safety gear until you have a few years of experience. Because a skateboard can, can slip out from under you at any time. So, helmet always, knee pads, second best, wrist guards.
