Transcript:How to Mend a Seam
Hi, I am Debbie Colgrove for About.com and today I am going to show you how to mend a seam.Mark Seam Rip With Pins
In this garment the main seam itself has come out. The seam finish has remained. From inside the garment I am going to find where the seam is ripped, I am going to mark it with pins.Line Up the Seam
This is a very short rip in the seam so it is not a real problem. The seam allowance, the seam finish is holding the seam in place. If it were not you would need to line up the seam using the stitch holes and make sure everything was going to line up when you were sewing.Use Thread That Matches
This one is pretty easy, just keeping the pins outside the seam allowance. When you take it to the sewing machine you, of course, use thread that matches, but in this case I want you to see it.Drop the Needle Into Stitching
Once you are at the sewing machine drop the needle into stitching that is still existing in the seam. By stitching over those last few stitches before the rip you are going to be locking the seam from both sides.Keep Stitching EvenM
I am watching and I see that I want to keep that even, I am going to move my seam guide and keep stitching. I might even stitch back one stitch to lock it. Proceed to the other end, where the seam stops, and here is my last stitch where the stitching is. I am going to go over those stitches, and back one or two. Voila, the seam is repaired. Thanks for watching. To learn more visit us on the Web at About.com.
