Transcript:How to Sew a Gift Card Holder

Hi! Welcome! My name is Sarah Cogan and today we are going to be making a gift card holder.

Gather Your Sewing Materials

What you are going to need for this project is going to be some sort of fabric. Today I am using a fleece, wax paper, a tracing wheel. You are going to want a ruler, a pencil, a seam ripper, a pair of scissors, some straight pins to pin your fabric together and some pushpins to pin your fabric and your pattern to the table.

Make the Gift Card Holder Pattern

So the first thing we are going to do is we are going to make our gift card pattern. So we are going to make a two-and-a-half inch wide rectangle with an extra nine inches up. So once I have found my center point, that is one quarter inch up from my rectangle, then I am going to connect the corner to it. So now I need to add a little extra seam allowance. I am just going through and I am finding my quarter inch mark and drawing a line. So once you are done your pattern piece should look like so.

Cut the Fabric and Sew the Hems

I am going to put my pattern down on my fabric, over the tracing paper. So now I am going to go ahead and trace over my pattern that I created. My next step is going to be to cut out my fabric. So now that we are cut out, our next step is to go straight to the sewing machine.

The one nice thing about fleece is that it doesn't fray, so it's easy to work with. So once you have gotten your bottom hem sewn, you are going to go ahead and fold it up, so that it meets just underneath where your triangle begins.

Sew a Closure to the Gift Card Holder

Now that you have your gift card holder pinned, you are going to need the exact same thing that you did before for the seams, and now you are ready to add the closure. So I am just going to sew right through my ribbon, give it a couple of good little text down. Now I am going to place my button on top of it. And you want to make sure you go through your button several times just to make sure that's nice and sturdy.

All right! So now you have a texture button on your ribbon, you have finished your gift card holder. All you have to do next is wrap your ribbon around your gift card holder and then a couple of times around your button to secure it and you are good to go.Thanks for sewing with us today and have a wonderful day.
