Hi, I'm Gretchen Siegchrist for About.com Home and Garden, and today we are going to talk about scrapbooking. Before you begin putting together your scrapbook, you want to make sure that you have all of the necessary supplies.Choose a Scrapbook Album
To begin with, you will need an album. You can buy a decorated album like this one, or buy something more basic and decorate it yourself. Make sure that your album has enough pages to fit all of your pictures and scraps. It is a good idea to buy a few extra pages while you are at the store, because you may not be able to find them in the right size if you wait and go back later.Scrapbooking Scissors
You will also need a good, sharp pair of scissors. Make sure you get some that are easy to handle and can cut straight lines as well as more complex shapes. You can buy other, fancier scissors with decorative edges or very intricate shapes, but a good pair of straight scissors should work in most situations.Scrapbook Adhesive Supplies
Next, you will need some adhesive for sticking the pictures and decorations to the scrapbook page. I like this liquid glue because it has a fine tip on one end for gluing down small things, and a broader sponge on the other end for gluing down pictures and other larger pieces of paper.Scrapbook Paper and Cardstock Supplies
Card stock and fancy printed papers work well for creating shapes and decorations or for making backgrounds for your pages. If you go to an art or hobby store, you can find a large selection of papers, and you can usually buy them in individual sheets so that each page of your scrapbook will have a unique look. Stickers and stamps will also add a nice decorative touch to your scrapbook pages.Markers for Scrapbooking
Lastly, you will need permanent markers for writing comments and titles on your scrapbook pages. I like markers like this, which have a fine tip on one end for writing comments and a broader tip on the other end for larger titles.Acid-Free Scrapbook Supplies
Make sure that all of the supplies that you buy for your scrapbook are acid-free. This way, they will not deteriorate your picture over time. With these basic supplies, along with your photos, scraps and creativity, you can create beautiful scrapbook pages that will be cherished forever. Have fun. Thanks for watching.
