Hi, I'm Rebecca Ludens for About.com Home and Garden. Today I'm going to show you how to make an accordion fold mini scrapbook. Why Use a Foldout Scrapbook?
Sometimes you have more photos of an occasion than will fit on a scrapbook page. This simple mini book is the perfect solution. The inside pages can hold extra photos and journaling.Cut and Score the Mini Scrapbook Pages
To begin, cut two, 4 inch wide strips of cardstock from an 8 1/2 x 11 inch sheet. The strips will be 4 inches x 11 1/2 inches. Next, insert a scoring blade on your trimmer and score the strips every four inches. Fold on the score lines creating 4 x 4 inch squares.Attach the Pages
Use a piece of photo tape to attach the two strips together creating a four inch square where the two pieces join. Now you have completed the inside pages of the book.Create a Foldout Scrapbook Cover
Next, you will need a cover. To begin, you will need to cut a piece of chipboard or matboard that is slightly larger than the four inch square pages. This piece is a four and a half inch square. To cover the chipboard you will need a piece of patterned or solid paper that is one inch bigger than the chipboard this piece has been cut to five and a half inches square.Attach the Mini Scrapbook Cover
Adhere the chipboard to the center of the back of the patterned paper. Fold the paper around the chipboard, pressing to teach the paper where you will want it to stay. Snip the corner of the paper just outside of the chipboard to create beautifully mitered corners. Use photo tape to adhere the paper around the chipboard to complete your cover.Use a small piece of photo tape to adhere a piece of ribbon on the back of the mini book before placing it in the finished scrapbook page.
Decorate and Fill the Foldout Photo Scrapbook
The cover of the book can be embellished with more paper, printed journalism or titles, or flat embellishments. Then, you will be ready to fill the book with four inch by four inch cropped photos. Your finished scrapbook page will contain enough photos to tell the whole story. Thanks for watching! To learn more, visit us on the Web at homegarden.about.com.
