Transcript:How to Make Aebleskiver

Hi, I'm Diane Vogt from Storybrook Farm Bed and Breakfast in Jonesborough, Tennessee for About.com and today I'm going to show you how to make ableskivers.

Ingredients for Ableskivers

To make this tasty recipe, you will need:

  • 4 eggs 
  • 2 cups of milk
  • 3 cups of ableskiver mix
  • some jam
  • powdered sugar
  • an ableskiver pan
  • a toothpick or skewer

How to Make Ableskiver Dough

Pour the milk into a bowl. Add in the four eggs, and beat together for a minute. Now, add in the able ableskiver mix and whisk this together until smooth. Place your ableskiver pan on the burner and heat at low temperature. I always coat my pan with a little oil to prevent sticking.

How to Cook Ableskivers

Once warm, fill each well almost to the top. Save a little room for the mix to expand. Now, we are going to do a quarter turn on each ableskiver. Stick your skewer inside the ableskiver and gently turn. Let it sit for 30 seconds to a minute, and then make a second quarter turn to each one. Repeat this one more time. 

Remember temperature is one of the tricks to getting perfect ableskiver. Keep it on a low to medium temperature so the mix has plenty of time to cook without getting burned. For the last turn, stick your skewer in the back of each ableskiver, and turn the open side down, so the rest of the batter cooks. The outside of the ableskivers should be golden brown when finished. If yours are taking a little longer to cook, let them sit a little longer on the heat, but turn them often. To serve, add three to a plate, pour on some jam, and sprinkle with powdered sugar and enjoy.
