Transcript:Make a Double Four Patch Quilt
Hi, this is Becki Stratton for About.com, and today, we're going to talk about how to make a double four-patch quilt.
Create the Cloth Strips for the Double Four-Patch Quilt
Today we're going to start by taking two strips that are the same width. We will sew them together to create one wider strip. From this strip, we will then cut smaller sections that will be half of the width of the full strip.
We have cut two-and-a-half-inch strips, so we will cut two-and-a-half-inch wide pieces from the strips. Place your ruler, line it up with your fabric at two-and-a-half inches, cut and continue to cut the rest of your strip.
Sew the Patches for the Double Four-Patch Quilt
Taking the pieces that you've cut, we're going to place them opposite and put them right sides together, making sure that we have the seam even and nestled. This side goes this way, this one goes this way. Now we're ready to sew.Using a quarter-inch seam, we sew them together. We've now created our four patch. Once you have all your four patches, you will now need a square that is the same size as the four patch. Using those squares, you will now alternate to create one larger square: two four-patch blocks and two solid blocks for each square.Thank you for watching.
