Transcript:How to Print From a Smartphone

Hi, I'm Mark Sasson with MobileComputerServices.info, and I'm here today for About.com to talk to you about how to print from a smartphone.

Standard Phone vs. SmartPhone

Before we talk about printing from a smartphone we just wanted to differentiate a standard phone from a smartphone. A smartphone is typically a phone that has email capabilities, allows you to go on the web, and some smartphones also allow you to print. Your basic cell phone is just going to be basically for calling and storing contacts. Your smartphone is more of like a computer in a mini phone. One technology I was going to talk about is this new Apple air print.

Printing From a Smartphone

Apple air print is a technology that has been built into Apple printers. Air Print allows you to print from Apple devices such as iPhones, iPads and Apple laptops and is exclusive to Apple technology. Lately we’ve been doing a lot of installations with Brother printers because the Brother printers now have their own application, which installs on either Android phones or iPhones and iPads. And the Brother all-in-one multi-function printers allow you to print from these mobile devices, as long as you have the application.

Notes About Printing From a Smartphone

Most of the latest smartphones give you the ability to print to a wireless or network printer. For example on this iPhone I have here, when I’m on a webpage I’m able to hit this arrow and access the print function. Then I can select a printer, hit print, and the according document will get sent to the printer I selected. Now every phone is going to have a different way about printing but you’ll have to look into your documentation or the manual to see how to print with the device that you have.
