Using Hotspots in your PowerPoint presentation
Hotspots are hyperlinks that, once clicked, will take you to a different part of your presentation. Hotspots can be used for creating games, revealing more information, and many other purposes.
I will start with a preexisting project. I want to link this text to a different slide so when I click on it, I will be at a different place in my presentation. Select the text, picture or icon you wish you represent a hyperlink and click the Insert hyperlink button at the top of the screen. A window will come up with many options. First under the Link to column at the left, choose where you want to link to. I want to link to another place in my presentation so I ll choose Place in this Document. You can also link to a website or a something in a different document on your computer. Now I will select which slide I want to link to. A thumbnail will appear to the right. Type in what you want the link to display. There is also an option to put in a Screen Tip, which are the words that appear when you move your mouse over a link. I ll type in a screen tip. Click Ok.
Notice that you re hotspot is a different color and underlined. The link will only work if you are in the Slideshow view. So click the Slideshow button and try it out.
If you want to return to the slide you came from and continue your presentation, create a hotspot that covers the entire slide by going to slideshow, action buttons, and selecting custom. Then click and drag to create a rectangle over the entire slide. A window will appear where you can choose which slide to link to. Under the Hyperlink drop down menu choose slide then click on the slide you want to return to in your presentation. Click Ok twice. Now you need to make your hotspot transparent. Right click on it and choose format autoshape. Choose no fill and then click OK.
Check your links by going to the slideshow view. Now when I click anywhere on the screen the invisible hyperlink will take me back to where I left off in my presentation. To delete a transparent hyperlink select it so that small circles appear and press delete.
If you want to remove a hotspot, but not the text or picture that represents it, right click the text or object, click remove hyperlink. If you want to remove all of it, select the text or object and press delete.
