Transcript:How to Use Design Themes in PowerPoint 2011 for Mac

Hi, I’m Brian Smith for About.com here to share some tips on using themes in Microsoft PowerPoint 2011 for Mac.

Selecting a PowerPoint Theme

Using PowerPoint’s themes is an easy way to make a professional presentation.  You can see that I have a simple PowerPoint presentation open right now. On the Themes Ribbon, you will notice a row of thumbnails representing many different themes included in PowerPoint and available to use.  By simply clicking on a theme thumbnail, your current presentation will take on all of the formatting included in the theme. It’s really that simple to give your PowerPoint presentation a new look.

You’ll also notice that on the right hand side of the thumbnails, there is an arrow indicating more themes available to the right.  When I click it, a new row of themes will appear.  You’ll also notice a drop down arrow which once clicked will display a full view of your theme choices.

Customizing the PowerPoint Themes

Once you have a theme that you are happy with, you can continue to tweak the look of your presentation by selecting different theme color palettes or a different theme font style. You can change the colors of your theme by selecting the Colors button from the Theme Options area of the Theme Ribbon.  Here I’ll select Expo and you’ll see all the colors changed.  Just like I can chose the Fonts button from Theme Options and change the font for all the slides in my presentation. I hope you found this tip helpful when using PowerPoint.  For more tips, be sure to check us out on the web at compute.about.com
