Transcript:How to Copy a PowerPoint 2010 Design Theme
Hi, I'm Kostas Georgokitsos for About.com. Today I'll show you how to copy a PowerPoint 2010 design theme to another presentation.
Set Up the PowerPoint 2010 Design Theme in a Presentation
There are some simple steps to follow when you want to reuse a theme from an existing presentation in a new one. First, you'll have to make sure that both the original and the new presentation are visible side by side on the screen. To do this, open the View tab, go to the Window Group and click on "Arrange All".
Make sure the Home tab is open in both presentations. Go to the control panel of the original presentation, click on the down arrow below "Slides" and then on the down arrow of the "New Slide" button. You can see that the design theme of the selected slide has been applied to all available layouts. Note that the name of this theme has been changed to Opulent.
Recreate the PowerPoint 2010 Design Theme in Another Presentation
Now go to the control panel of the new presentation and follow the exact same steps. Since no particular theme has been applied, yet, all layouts use the default Office theme. Go back to the original presentation, click on the "Format Painter" brush icon. Your mouse pointer will change into a brush.
Go to the Slide Overview Pane of the new presentation and click on the slide that you want to paste the theme to. The theme has been copied. Note that the company logo on the lower right has been copied as well.
Create a New PowerPoint 2010 Slide With the Design Theme
To create a new slide without the new design, click on one of the existing slides, which have the PowerPoint default plain theme and then hit the "New Slide" icon, not the down arrow below it.
Likewise, to create a slide using the new design, click on the slide you pasted the theme to and then click on the New Slide icon.
Apply the PowerPoint 2010 Design THeme to an Existing Slide
To apply the new theme to an existing slide, select a slide that has the new design. Then click on the "Format Painter" brush icon. Your pointer will change into a brush. Click on the existing slide. The new design has been applied. Note, that although the two slides had a different layout, PowerPoint automatically adjusted the design to the target layout.
To apply the new theme to an existing slide, but also change its layout at the same time, select it and click on Layout. Scroll down. You can now see that in addition to the Office Theme, the new, Opulent theme is also available for all layouts. Choose the new layout of your preference.
