Hi, this is Brian Green from F & G Weddings for About.com, your life stylist, and today we're talking about tips for getting your backyard ready for that summer party.

Cleaning Your Landscape for a Party

One of the great ways to prepare your backyard yard for your fabulous summer party is, of course, we want to make sure that, if there is a lawn, that the lawn is cut. If we've got concrete in your pool area, we want to make sure that it's washed down and that you've cleaned your pool.

We want to make sure that any trees and any leaves that may have fallen of course we've raked up and everything is all fresh and tidy. We want to look for any loose stones or pebbles that may cause people to trip or stumble. We want to look for any roots that may have come out of the ground that may cause people to again fall.

Using Indoor Furniture in Your Backyard

So we really want to make sure that we prepare the yard itself for what we're going to layer on top of it. The next layer, of course, is we're going to take inside furniture outside and make sure that we set up like it's a living room on the outside. So a great throw rug, some occasional chairs, a lovely sofa and create a seating atmosphere that's fun and fabulous. Take one of your favorite tall lamps outside and really outside inside feeling that everyone is kind of enjoying. They're not sure if they inside anymore, they're outside, where are they? They're having a great fun time.
