Transcript:How to Make a Fall Hanging BasketHi! I'm Debbie Anderson for About.com! Decorating for the fall season is a great way to spruce up your home. So, today I'm going to show you how to create a fall hanging basket in just a few easy steps.
Supplies for Making a Fall Hanging BasketFor this project, you will need:
- a pair of scissors
- a knife
- needle-nose pliers
- a round piece of foam
- dried long blades of grass
- floral wire
- a hot glue gun
- glue sticks
- a hanging basket
- autumn colored silk mum flowers with floral wire stem
- and autumn silk leaves with wire stems.
Instructions for Making a Fall Hanging BasketFirst, use your knife to cut a small hole in the middle of the foam that is approximately one to two inches in diameter.Next, place the foam inside the hanging basket so that the hole is in the center of the basket. Then, use your scissors to cut the blades of grass, so that the blades of dried grass are now approximately twice the length as the depth of the hanging basket.
Next, bunch together the cut end blades of dried grass and then tightly wrap the ends of the blades of grass together with a piece of floral wire. Push the wire tied end of the blades of grass through the small hole in the center of the foam inside the hanging basket until the ends of the grass are resting on the bottom of the inside of the basket.
Next, place a liberal amount of hot glue to the edge of the foam where the blades of grass insert through the hole in the foam. Then, place a liberal amount of hot glue to the seam at the outer edge of the foam where the foam touches the inside of the hanging basket. Next, push the stems of the autumn silk leaves into the foam in an evenly spaced out circular pattern around the grass. Place a small amount of hot glue to each stem of leaves where it inserts into the foam to secure the leaves to the hanging basket arrangement.
Next, use the wire cutters on your needle-nose pliers to cut the bushels of mums into individual mum flowers with a stem. Then, push the stems of the autumn colored silk mum flowers into the foam in an evenly spaced out circular pattern. Place a small amount of hot glue to each stem of the mum flowers where it inserts into the foam to secure the mum flowers to the hanging basket arrangement. Next, carefully pull the chain of the hanging basket over the flower arrangement inside the basket and hang the fall hanging basket arrangement near a covered outdoor location to protect it from the harsh outdoor weather elements.
