Hi, I'm Donna Zaloom, owner of Longevity Pilates in Verona, N.J. I'm here for About.com to talk about what to expect in Pilates mat instructor training.

What to Expect With Pilates Mat Instructor Training

When you get your Pilates mat certification, you are going to learn the 34 exercises that make up the standard Pilates mat repertoire. In the entire Pilates repertoire, there are over 600 exercises. That's a comprehensive program where you are going to learn all of the exercises not only on the mat but on the reformer, on the Cadillac, on the barrels, on all the equipment. So you can see that getting a comprehensive certificate will take you a lot more time and a lot more money than get a mat certificate.

Why You Should Do Pilates Mat Instructor Training

Mat certification is a great watt to start. Get your feet wet and make sure that you are really happy teaching Pilates before you invest a lot of time and money in learning the entire program. Before you go for your mat certification, I think it's a great idea to make sure you are taking Pilates classes. Do the hundred, do rollovers, do leg circles. Ge to know Pilates before you think it's something that will help your career.

Prices for Pilates Mat Instructor Training

There's a big range of differences in prices on certification programs. A mat certification is generally go to be about 40 hours of work and cost anywhere from $600-1000, or maybe more. When you choose a company to do your certification with, I would look for a company that is nationally known.
