Transcript:Overview of a Pilates Mat Instructor Training

Hi, my name is Audrey Laurelton and I'm the owner of Equilibrium Pilates in Montclair, N.J. I'm here for About.com today to describe mat certification in Pilates.

What Is Pilates Mat Instructor Training?

A mat certification in Pilates will enable you to teach at the different levels, basic, intermediate, and advanced, along with appropriate modifications for different injuries. The program itself can be conducted over several weekends, with each level taking 2-3 days. Program costs can range from $300-1500.

Where Can You Receive Pilates Mat Instructor Training?

There are a variety of places that you can get certified. I would recommend taking you mat certification at a studio that also offers a comprehensive Pilates instructor training program in case you want to move forward in the future, you'll already have a relationship with that studio.

Why Should You Receive Pilates Mat Instructor Training?

You may choose to start with a mat certification for a variety of reasons. One might be finances, another is you might not be certain Pilates is the direction you really want to go. The mat certification will give you an opportunity to get your feet wet teaching. You'll get some practice and you'll be able to build relationships with other Pilates studio and facilities in your community.
