Hi, My name is Scott Norton. I work for Global Spectrum. We’re the management company for the University of Phoenix Stadium. I’m here for About.com. Today I’m going to show you why the University of Phoenix Stadium is such a great attraction in metro Phoenix.

University of Phoenix Stadium is Home to Arizona Cardinals

It was built in 2006 to accommodate the Arizona Cardinals NFL Football Club as well as the annual Tostitos Fiesta Bowl in addition to corporate events, social functions, and other sporting events. Concerts as well. The Stadium was built for $455 million dollars which is a bargain in today’s prices, when you’re looking at Dallas at $1.8 billion. It took about two years to build this stadium and some of the unique features are the roll out field and the retractable roof. We’re the only stadium in the world that has both of these features.

University of Phoenix Stadium was Built for Sunshine

We’re standing on what now is called the field tray. It’s 18 million pounds. It’s a natural grass surface. The stadium field actually sits outside about ninety five percent of the time and the building is actually positioned on this piece of property so that the field will receive the maximum amount of sunshine. It’s a very open stadium. As you can see there’s a lot of light. We have our translucent roof which allows the great Arizona sunshine to bleed through. So, it’s just very fan friendly.

It’s a new generation stadium, so we’ve got 14 thousand parking spaces on site. You know, every seat in the building is great in our minds. Certainly, if you’re in the last row, you’re in the last row. But, given the size of the building and the pitch of the seats, we feel that we have some of the best site lines in the NFL.

Food and Parking is Widely Available

We have a vast menu here. Certainly we’ve got branded products, whether it be pizza or subs or what have you. Certainly, beer or wine and full bar depending on the event. We’ve got some southwest cuisine. We’ve got some local proprietors that do business here. We’ve got a barbecue person that does their sandwiches here that’s very popular. And then we have the national brands. So a wide variety for fans. We basically border route 101, so multiple exit points off the freeway. Parking is typically ten dollars for most events, depending upon what it is.

Variety of Events at University of Phoenix Stadium

We do about 120 events a year, 12 of which are typically football games. We’re doing US Soccer here soon. We’ve done them in the past. Typically, have two to three soccer matches a year. We’ve done NCA Basketball. We’ve done U2, The Stones. We like to value price a lot of our events and we at least want to have some tickets where people can get in the door under twenty-five dollars.
