Transcript:Where to Get a Philly Cheese Steak
Hi, I'm Elisa Pupko for About.com, and I'm here to take you to some of the best cheese steak shops in Philadelphia.
Pat's King of Steaks Cheese Cake Shop
I'm currently standing at 9th Street and Passyunk Avenue, outside Pat's King of Steaks, the original home of the cheese steak. Founder Pat invented the steak in 1930 and since then it's grown from a little stand in South Philly's Italian Market to one of the most famous cheese steaks shops in the world. Countless celebrities, politicians and even the Presidents have visited here. You name it, they've been here.
So this is Pat's Cheese Steak. They don't even cut it in half. It's got onions, mushrooms, and whiz. Whizlicious!
Campo's Deli
Campo's Deli is a great spot for anyone looking to sample some authentic Philadelphia flavor without having to travel too far to get it. Conveniently located at 214 Market Street, it's just three blocks from the Liberty Bell. More famously known for their creative menu of hoagies, Campo's served up a traditional and respectable Philadelphia Cheese steak. They also ship to other cities. So, I got “the works,” friend onions, sweet bell pepper and mushrooms. It smells delicious. And messy.
Jim's Steaks
Jim's steaks are a Philadelphia tradition that was started in 1939 in it's original location in West Philadelphia. Today Jim's has multiple locations, however the classic smell of friend onions wafting down South Street makes this location the most memorable. As the premier cheese steak of South Street, there's often a large crowd meaning a little bit of a wait before you actually get to taste the famous sandwich. So I got a cheese steak with Whiz, peppers and onions.
So there you have it, some amazing places to get some delicious cheese steak in Philadelphia. For more information, please visit About.com.
