Transcript:How to Make a Photo Map Web

Hi my name is Lea Elleseff, and today on About.com I'm going to show you how to decorate your wall and learn about geography at the same time by making a map photo web. Here's what we'll need:

Supplies for Making a Photo Map Web

  • A handful of colorful thread.
  • Lots of tacks.
  • Scissors for snipping!
  • Photographs from places on your map.
  • A map. As you can see, I've already put mine on the wall. I've chosen a world map because my roomates and I have done a bit of travelling that we like to reminisce about over breakfast, but you can choose any map you want, whether it's your town or your State, any map at all, really.

Making a Photo Map Web

Begin by putting tacks up on your map from all the places where your photos were taken. Let's see what we have.

Next, put the photos you like on the area all around the map.

Finally, what you want to do is connect each photograph with its tack on the map by running a string between them.

Wrap some string around a tack on your map.

Run the string down to your photograph.

Wrap it around a tack.

And cut the spool off with your scissors.

Continue doing this till all your photographs are connected to the tacks on the map.

And since these photos were both taken in the same place, I'm just going to connect one to the other.

Now when I have visitors over, they can marvel at a tired horse in Jordan. A big old cricket in Nebraska. A little girl from Nicaragua. Bulgarian farmers and mountains. And a deranged goose that lives under a bridge with homeless people in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Now that's variety.

Once you make your own web, I'm sure you'll figure out that you can keep adding photographs to it. Who knows, maybe one day you'll have so many journeys that you'll have a web the covers an entire room.
