Transcript:Using a Ouiji Board
Hi I'm Chris Davis for About.com and today we are going to explore the process of using a Ouija Board.
Setting the Atmosphere for Using a Ouija Board
To get started you will want to set the right environment. Turn off the TV or radio. Dim the lights and light some candles. Try to minimize any unnecessary distractions. You also want to play sober. You'll get better results if you haven't been drinking.
How to Use a Ouija Board
Maintain control. You need two people to operate the Ouija board but you can invite other friends. Try not to have more than five participants because it is believed by some that it becomes confusing making results harder to decipher.
The best position to use a Ouija board in is for two people to face each other, knees touching if possible, with the board on their laps. However, you can use a flat surface such as a floor or table when more players are involved.
Placing Your Hands on the Planchette
While sitting in a circle place your hands lightly upon the planchette. “Lightly,” is important. Just let your fingertips rest upon the device. Decide on one person as the questioner know as the medium. Anyone can ask questions but only one person, the medium, should ask questions to the board. Begin to move the planchette in a small circle on the board. Do it slowly and effortlessly. You should practice until it becomes a reflex that you don't even realize you're doing. This circling of the board allows energy to build up.
Rules for Communicating with Spirits
After a few minutes, you should feel the planchette move. At this time you are free to ask the board questions. Start with simple yes/no questions and be patient. It may take some time to get answers. Learning to use a Ouija board takes practice and it can be awkward at first. Often times people will assume that the other person is moving the planchette. Don't let an argument break out during the session. When using the board be polite. Thank the board or entities for communicating with you. However, don't believe everything the board tells you. Finally when you're done using the Ouija board, slide the planchette to 'GOODBYE' and removeyour hands and close the board.
Have someone write down the answers during the session. It can be difficult to keep with the responses and it gives you time to review and decipher the Ouija board.
