Hello. I'm Thea Lewis of Queen City Ghostwalk for About.com and today, I'm going to tell you the story of the Madonna of Bachelor's Grove.
Legendary Hauntings at Bachelor's Grove
Bachelor's Grove, a cemetery near Chicago, was once a grand park cemetery where people back in the eighteen and early nineteen hundreds would go picnicking and fishing. But it's also said to be one of the most haunted places in the United States. Several apparitions have been spotted there, including a monk, a glowing yellow man, and the most famous apparition of all, the Madonna of Bachelor's Grove.
The Ghostly Apparition of Madonna of Bachelor's Grove
The Madonna of Bachelor's Grove is a beautiful, yet mournful looking young woman, sitting on a tombstone. Most people at first think she's a monument, until they realize that the Madonna of Bachelor's Grove is see-through. People have speculated about her origins but nobody really knows where the Madonna of Bachelor's Grove came from. Some people think she might have come from the phantom farmhouse down the road. People who have seen it say that the closer you get to this place, the smaller and smaller it gets, until finally it disappears – just like turning off the picture on an old television set.
