FTW Means For the Win
There’s so much unique lingo online. Say, you’re browsing the web, and you come across an interesting discussion about the definition of a foreign word. Someone finds the answer on an a free online translator - and others reply with “Free Online Translators FTW” Online, FTW usually stands for “For the Win.”
It’s a common way to agree with someone, saying yes, this is the best, you are right!Say, someone writes, “I love my laptop,” someone else could reply “Yes, laptops For the Win!” Meaning, yes, laptops are the best! Nowadays, online, FTW mainly means For the Win. But it can have many different meanings in different contexts.
FTW Started on a Game Show
The Urban Dictionary says FTW became popular with the TV show Hollywood Squares. The final question in this trivia based game was asked “for the win...” Since then, FTW has been a popular term - even though its meaning hasn’t always been the same. Years ago, FTW had a much more negative meaning, but it has gradually faded and today it’s mainly a positive expression.
