Transcript:How to Find Internet Radio Stations
Hey There! I’m Pelpina, here for About.com. In this video, I’ll explain how you can search for internet radio stations you’d like to listen to!
Internet Radio is Accessible with an Internet Connection
Internet radio is usually accessible from anywhere in the world because, unlike traditional radio, it doesn’t rely on electromagnetic waves to transmit sound. Instead, the audio is streamed from a server - and reassembled by a software player on the listener’s end. So, all you need, is an internet connection - and you can listen to your favorite station anywhere.
Internet Radio has Various Formats
There are many, many free internet music services - some stream a certain genre of music, others focus on specific topics, or a region -- you can really find anything you’re interested in.
Tips for Finding Internet Radio Stations
1 ) If you’re looking for a specific online radio station - say from a certain country, or in a certain language, you can look it up on radiotower.com. This is a great resource which also lets you search on category and media type. Just search for radio stations you’re interested in, click on the link, and the audio should stream automatically.
2) If you’re more interested in designing the playlist yourself, give Grooveshark a try. It lets you choose your own songs, so you create the perfect playlist!
3) If you’re looking for a free online music service that also gives music recommendations based on your taste - try Spotify or Pandora, both are reliable (and free) music streaming services.
4) And one of my personal favorite sites to find great internet radio is Live365. It features more than 260 genres of music, produced by more than 5000 broadcasters and music makers from over 150 countries. So, plenty to choose from!
