Transcript:Manage Bookmarks in Internet Explorer

Hi I'm Don Schechter for About.com computing. Today I'll show you how to manage your favorite websites and bookmarks.

Why Use Bookmarks in Internet Explorer?

Having a favorites list and bookmarks saves you time when you're surfing online. You don't have to type in the same website url each time you go online. You also don't have to memorize every site you enjoy viewing.

Organize Bookmarks In IE

I am using Internet Explorer 6 but you will be able to manage your favorites and bookmarks from any version. If you have many bookmarks in your favorites menu it may be time to organize them. To view your favorites, click the star icon under the address bar. Here you can see a list of websites you have added to your favorites.

Click the star with a plus sign and choose organize favorites in the drop down menu. In the window that opens, you will see all of your bookmarked pages and folders.

Some of these folders were created by default so I will delete them. Select what you want to delete and click the delete button at the bottom of the window. To create a new folder to organize clips, click new folder. Type the name of the folder that describes the kind of websites you will add to it. Click and drag the websites you want into the folder. Or you can click move and choose the folder you want to move the file to. This may be easier if you have lots of files and lots of folders. In addition, if you need subfolders you can add a folder inside another folder. Again this comes in handy when doing lots of research or if you just want to be super organized. If you want to change the name of a website or folder, select it and click rename.

Click close when you're done. Now you will see your favorites list organized the way you want it. This is a great process to do whether you are doing research, use a computer for business, or if you are just surfing the web.
