with Rebecca Murray

Zack Snyder and his producing partner/wife, Deborah, brought their latest action film to Comic Con, and it's decidedly different than their previous efforts. 'Sucker Punch' is all about the women and the Snyders couldn't be happier with their cast.

Zack and Deborah Snyder - Sucker Punch

How did you have to change your action being that this was girls?

Zack Snyder: "I think that's the thing we've been talking about, the thing that's amazing about what the girls have done is that I didn't do anything different than I would normally do."

Deborah Snyder: "I think that's the problem. A lot of times people try and change them and that's why maybe they're not as successful as they could be. But I think that these women with enough preparation - because they do need a little bit more than the men, we learned from like how we trained the guys from 300 to how these women trained - but once they have that training, they can do basically anything that we had the guys doing."

Zack Snyder: "They can do anything. The thing that's awesome too is that I didn't want them to imitate like boys. 'Just do it [your way],' because everyone has a personal style. If you teach someone to play pool or throw a baseball, they're going to throw it the way they do it. You don't want to mess with that, but you just want them to be proficient. And I think that's what the girls were able to do. They really sort of brought their own personal style to the way they fought, but they also did it in a way that was without compromise."

Deborah Snyder: "And what's cool too is they did it and they're still feminine, and they're still sexy, and they're still emotional. And I think that rather than being so one-dimensional, these women have it all. They can be tough, and then they can also be crying and emotional - and that's okay."

You've been working on this story for years. What is it that you're connected to?

Zack Snyder: "I'm connected to a lot of things about it. I think first of all Steve [Shibuya] and I wrote at its core a movie about this bond that these girls create with each other, and then what they're willing to sacrifice for it, you know? How far will you go for a friend or someone that you love? What are you willing to give up? And I think that that is universal. Everyone can relate to giving of yourself so that someone else can survive. And I think that once you sort of had that at its core, that's a thing that because the girls had bonded so intensely over this training and over their experience in prepping for the movie, I think that that part was easy for them because it just came natural to their experience. They actually had sweated and fought and suffered with each other."

Deborah Snyder: "And went to war almost together."

Zack Snyder: "So they were able in those scenes, just the pure dramatic scenes, to bring that experience to the thing. So for me, after visualizing it for so long, they actually would go further than I could have imagined so it was awesome."
