Gabriel Macht – 'Robert Pryce' in Whiteout - and Jacinda Barrett

So I can't figure it out, being a Southern California native, how anyone can survive up there. Did you figure out why people would even want to be up there?

Gabriel Macht: "Well, I wouldn't want to do it. It's not my thing. But I like the snow. I actually like snowboarding. I like being in the different environments. I like seasons, so I actually had a great time when we were up in Lake Manitoba. It was amazing. You see…"

Jacinda Barrett: "Yeah, but you couldn't have stayed there that much longer. I think two weeks is enough for you."

Gabriel Macht: "I couldn't have stayed that long."

Two weeks?

Jacinda Barrett: "That's how long he was there."

Was it really bad? Was it as cold as they say it was?

Gabriel Macht: "Yeah. It was 50 below, for sure. It was deadly. But then we shot on a soundstage and that was like 80 degrees. That was more challenging that it was 50 below."

Why?

Gabriel Macht: "Because you're wearing extreme weather gear with goggles and the hat and mittens, and the whole thing. You've got fake snow coming at you, you can't breathe correctly. It was way more challenging than being in the real stuff."

Why did you sign on to this?

Gabriel Macht: "I don't know. I have no idea!"

Jacinda Barrett: "He didn't know what he was in for."

You had to look at that script and go, "Wait a minute here…"

Gabriel Macht: "There was great writing. The source material, Whiteout the graphic novel, was a terrific graphic novel. And I wanted to work with Kate [Beckinsale] and Dominic [Sena] and Joel Silver. It was a fun shoot."

Had you read that before you actually did this?

Gabriel Macht: "No. After I…when I got the meeting, I ran out and grabbed the graphic novel. I read it and I was like, 'Where's my character?' And I slowly figured out that it was a woman."

Wow.

Gabriel Macht: "Yes."

And they didn't require you to play a woman?

Gabriel Macht: "No, they changed it just for me."

Why should people see this?

Gabriel Macht: "People should see this because…"

Jacinda Barrett: "Because you're in it."

Gabriel Macht: "Because I'm in it."

That is the reason right there.

Gabriel Macht: "And she's married to me and so…"

There you go. Would you do a movie like this?

Jacinda Barrett: "Sure. I did Poseidon - way worse than this. Five months, they shot for two months. It was five months in the water."

So basically he's a wimp.

Jacinda Barrett: "Total wimp."
