Teresa Palmer – 'Becky' in The Sorcerer's Apprentice
Tell me about the character that you play – tell me everything about her.Teresa Palmer: "Okay, cool. She's Becky Barnes. She's an NYU student; she's a DJ. She's like a cool chick, you know? She's pretty normal. She's really bad at physics. And she ends up meeting Jay Baruchel's character, Dave, in a physics class and he offers to sort of help her out with the physics. And then obviously they kind of have a little rendezvous and they fall for each other. You know, he's all involved in this world of magic and sorcery, and so she gets… Her eyes are opened to this world and it's very exciting for her, and scary at the same time. But she really gets in her element."
Do you do a lot of stunts? Is there a lot of action for you?
Teresa Palmer: "Not for me. I wish. I wish there was so many stunts. But I had one stunt and that was it, and they gave me a stunt double for it. I had to climb up this huge tower and I'm really scared of heights. And they're, 'Don't worry. We have a stunt double for you,' but I was like, 'You know what? I'm going to do it myself.' I did it – I was all harnessed in and I kind of slipped at one point. I was like, 'This is really cool.' Like, 'When will I ever get the chance to do this again?'"
Did you get over your fear of heights?
Teresa Palmer: "Yeah, totally. It was like sort of lame because it was in a stage, so it wasn't really that high, and there was so many people there so I wasn't really going to fall. But still it was fun. The magic of moviemaking, I guess."
Working with Nicolas Cage must have been an awesome experience.
Teresa Palmer: "Amazing. And still even to be sitting on a panel with him and listening to him talk about his past films that I grew up watching, it's amazing. And he's such a wonderful person as well. He's open and so down-to-earth, and really unaffected by his fame. That's just very refreshing, I think."
We haven't seen much of the film yet, just little tiny pieces.
Teresa Palmer: "Me either, by the way. I haven't seen it yet. You've seen actually more than I have."
What do you think fans can expect from it?
Teresa Palmer: "You know, I think the great thing about Sorcerer's Apprentice is that it really offers something for everyone. There's the romance aspect. There's the huge live-action big-budget set pieces and massive action sequences. It's just fun. The whole thing is just a fun, pumping movie, amazing special effects. I think it's a movie that like everyone can go and see."
We need more just 'fun' movies.
Teresa Palmer: "Yeah, absolutely. You want to go and have an experience when you go to the movies, and I think you definitely will have this with Sorcerer's Apprentice."
