TJ Miller - 'Brian' in Get Him to the Greek
What do you do in Get Him to the Greek?TJ Miller: "Well, I'm a concierge at Planet Hollywood and then we find out I'm a drug dealer and then I'm a man who's been stabbed and needs to go to the hospital. My entire performance they wanted to do it over the course of about an hour and it was going to be sort of a side plot, and then I said, 'No, I don't have time because I have a lot of other projects,' and so they had to condense it into about a minute and a half."
That's a big character arc for a minute and a half.
TJ Miller: "You know what though? A lot of people out there say to me, 'TJ, are you an Oscar-caliber actor?' I think that this performance shall speak for itself and also for those people, and it'll speak for me - because I'm tired of talking."
What was like being on the set with Russell Brand and these guys?
TJ Miller: "It was really fun. They're nice guys. Obviously Russell is kind of a flamboyant dresser and that's difficult for me to be around."
Why is that difficult for you?
TJ Miller: "Just because, I don't know, I like to dress conservatively. I don't like to go outside of the box, and he's always kind of doing that. So that was difficult for me. But Jonah Hill was really nice. He allowed me to come into his trailer and look at some of the things that he had for eating. He has very healthy foods - granolas and things."
He let you look at them but not actually eat them?
TJ Miller: "I was not allowed to touch or eat them. I had to take off my shoes and put trash bags over my feet."
They worked together on Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Had you tried to get yourself written into that one?
TJ Miller: "No. I had actually forgotten that Forgetting Sarah Marshall was even a movie until it came out. And so I was not involved in that one. But this was a fun one. This is the first time I've worked with Judd Apatow, and we also got to film it in Vegas which was really fun."
And I would imagine there was a lot of freedom with what you could do, right?
TJ Miller: "Yeah. I mean Nick Stoller, the director, encourages a lot of improvisation. And he was a great writer and improviser himself, and so is Jonah Hill. So those DVD extras are going to be pretty crazy."
And you've got Gulliver's Travels, right?
TJ Miller: "Yes, I've got Gulliver's Travels and Yogi Bear 3-D."
You're voicing a ranger?
TJ Miller: "No, I am a ranger. The bears are the cartoons. I'm real, as real as it gets in Yogi Bear 3-D."
Is it all for kids?
TJ Miller: "It's a family film. But we've slipped in some pretty raunchy language and sexual humor."
An R-rated family film?
TJ Miller: "I'm not sure if it's going to be in the movie. I don't think it will. But I don't know if you guys have seen this, but I did an audition for Yogi Bear with a real bear so you've to see that on Youtube."
Are you really telling me the truth?
TJ Miller: "Yes, a 600 pound grizzly bear."
How did that go?
TJ Miller: "Good. The bear was nervous, it felt like."
How can you tell if a bear's nervous?
TJ Miller: "Just a lot of growling and foaming at the mouth."
Did you try and run away?
TJ Miller: "No, I stayed as close as I could. I tried to hug him but he took my pic-a-nic basket."
