Steven R McQueen from The Vampire Diaries and Piranha 3-D
Vampire Diaries is one of my favorite shows.Steven R McQueen: "Oh, thank you very much."
So are you going to be a vampire next season?
Steven R McQueen: "Well, you know, obviously I can't give that much away otherwise they'd kick my ass down there. I can say Jeremy takes a very interesting turn in the upcoming season. His character has hit an all new rock bottom and starts to feel a whole new level of loneliness and emptiness, and starts to turn that against the world."
You know, I'd like it if he could be happy for one episode though. Your guy is always going through so much.
Steven R McQueen: "Yeah, yeah. Unfortunately he's always stuck in that Rebel Without a Cause mindset. But you know it's always a little more fun to play it when you've got some serious stuff going on upstairs."
Vampires are hot right now. Are you into vampires at all?
Steven R McQueen: "You know, I've kind of stayed blind to it. I don't really watch much TV. I watch old movies and stuff like that, so I'm not up to date. My favorite vampire movie would definitely have to be the one with Gary Oldman."
No one is ever going to top that.
Steven R McQueen: "I mean, you can't. Gary Oldman is one of the best actors out there."
And you've also got Piranha, right?
Steven R McQueen: "Yeah, yeah. Piranha's coming out, too."
In 3-D.
Steven R McQueen: "Piranha in 3-D. That's coming out I think in August, and that was an absolute blast to make. I got to work with a lot of seasoned actors, and it's such a surreal concept that we just really, like, hammed it up and just had a good time with it, you know?"
So the piranhas are at a beach resort or something? What happens?
Steven R McQueen: "Yeah. Well, they're in this lake. I don't know - I'm not going to give too much of the story away. You're going to have to watch it. It's just like that ridiculous like Snakes on a Plane, just like that ridiculous fun, you know? It has it's moments of being scary, moments of being hilarious, and you can't help but just love the damn movie."
Have you seen it in 3-D with the piranhas coming out at you?
Steven R McQueen: "I haven't seen it in 3-D but I finally got to see a rough cut and man, we were just cracking up and jumping back every other instant. It's a lot of fun."
It looks like a lot of fun.
Steven R McQueen: "Yeah. Just, you know, get the buddies and go see it because it's going to be a blast."
Well I'm glad you guys got picked up for the second season on Vampire Diaries. Have you seen any of the scripts? I know you can't say anything, but have you seen anything?
Steven R McQueen: "We haven't seen the scripts but we got together and talked about the storylines, and stuff like that. It doesn't stop. It gets crazier and crazier. Luckily, Jeremy's this character who doesn't have a guideline because he wasn't in the books, so he's got this freedom where anything can happen and it just gets absolutely ridiculous."
You know what I love about it is it's got really smart writing. It's very sharp.
Steven R McQueen: "Well they're good at adding layers to characters, you know? That's where we're very grateful. Like a lot of the time you see stuff and it's hard to not make it one-dimensional. But with the different layers, and they write well with the stuff we have going on inside, we're able to just complicate it which is just the greatest gift as an actor."
