Stephen Lang - Avatar
Okay, I do not like 3-D movies and I don't really like action movies and I don't like performance capture, and Avatar was my favorite movie of the year. It was so good. How was that to work on that set?Stephen Lang: "Well, I'm glad you liked it and it sort of forces you to reevaluate a lot of things you like and don't like, you know? I think it just goes to show that a good story, not matter what the milieu, the context you put it in, it just carries you along. And the world that he created it was thrilling to be a part of it, to try and understand it from my character's point of view to try to overcome it, to try to beat it into submission. It was just a lot of hard work and fun."
Fun - is it fun to play somebody that bad?
Stephen Lang: "What do you think?"
Absolutely.
Stephen Lang: "Yeah, they're the fun guys. Definitely."
Working on that set, there wasn't a lot around you at times. How do you do that? How do you get into a character when there's nothing there to act off of?
Stephen Lang: "Well, I mean you really go towards your primary tool, which is your imagination. And then you couple that with the ability to pretend. And in a very simple way, that's what it is it seems to me. A lot of it has to do with also sort of shutting certain things out. And when you do that, you find other things starting to appear."
