Leslie Mann - 'Mom Thompson' in Shorts
You have kids so obviously is that the appeal of a family film at this point?
Leslie Mann: "Yes, yes. My little one, Iris, doesn't know what we do for a living because all of our movies are so filthy dirty she can't see them. So she gets to, finally, see a movie that I'm in."
But you don't usually do a special effects-type movie, and this one you have some special effects, right?
Leslie Mann: "I know."
What was that like?
Leslie Mann: "I just kind of listened to Robert [Rodriguez] and he told me what to do and I just kind of..."
Followed him.
Leslie Mann: "Yeah. Pretty much."
You can't go wrong with that. We know why kids are going to like it but is there something in here for adults too?
Leslie Mann: "Oh yeah. Okay, I go and see every single movie that comes out with my kids - every single kids movie. And sometimes it's like torture because some of them are terrible. This one is great. It's really good fun for the parents. Fun like in a ride. And the kids love it, so it's like thank god I made one of those movies and not one of the movies where parents want to take a nap during it."
Trevor Gagnon - 'Loogie'
Trevor Gagnon: "Shorts was a blast. I've never made a kids movie like this before and it was just a fun experience. On Old Christine, when I do that I'm usually the only kid on set. But this time when I'm on break I could hang out with the other kids so it was fun."
Hanging out with the other kids, did you guys do a lot of crazy stuff off the set?
Trevor Gagnon: "Not too much. I remember we were playing jokes on some people. Me and another kid - I forget who it was - we hid in a closet like we were going to scare, I think it was Jolie [Vanier] we were supposed to scare. But she figured it out. She pulled us out of the closet. It was funny."
What's it like working with Robert Rodriguez?
Trevor Gagnon: "It was cool. He's very, very good with kids. I know he has five kids of his own. He's good making these kinds of movies. He's like a big kid himself. It was fun."
And what would you wish for?
Trevor Gagnon: "At first, if I had it for one second, first I would wish I had more wishes. And then I would wish that I could fly, but not the wing type but like Superman-style without the cape. Then I could go in space, like without a helmet. I could travel to Mars and stuff. And that I could walk through walls without damaging them, like a ghost."
Leo Howard - 'Laser'
Is that the appeal for you, doing a Robert Rodriguez movie?
Leo Howard: "That's just been absolutely awesome for me. I'm so excited."
What's he like as a director?
Leo Howard: "Awesome director. I mean I was trying to pick his brain on set just to learn how he does things and all that. Just totally awesome guy."
What would you wish for?
Leo Howard: "More wishes."
That's a good wish. Once that wish is granted, what would your first wish be?
Leo Howard: "Man, man, man, man. A car? A good house..."
But you couldn't drive it yet.
Leo Howard: "I would wish for a license so I could drive the car."
Why are kids going to like this movie?
Leo Howard: "It's just what if something happened? What if you got a wishing rock, what would you wish for? It's a lesson which is good also. You don't know something's good until you lose it."
