Rebecca Murray from About.com Hollywood Movies at the premiere of Warner Bros Pictures' Shorts.
Kat Dennings - 'Stacey Thompson' in Shorts
This is a kids' movie. What's the appeal for you?
Kat Dennings: "I don't know - someone called Robert Rodriguez directing it."
Oh, that guy.
Kat Dennings: "Whatever. I don't know what he's done in the past. Probably nothing."
He just looks good in a hat.
Kat Dennings: "Yeah. No one rocks a hat like that guy."
Tell me about working on this with him as a director. What is he like?
Kat Dennings: "He is amazing. He's very serious, very studious, and he knows exactly what he's looking for. It was unlike any other director I've ever worked with. He has a very unique way of setting up the shots and he knows just what he's looking for in each shot. It's very efficient. It gets things done really fast. It's very interesting."
Is he collaborative?
Kat Dennings: "Yeah. He was always open to our input and stuff like that. But I mean, you kind of don't mess with success, you know? I didn't want to say anything. I didn't want to mess with my lines - they're Robert Rodriguez'."
Did you have to work opposite special effects?
Kat Dennings: "I had a little bit. Not too much, although they did a full body scan so there's probably a little me running around in scenes where I wasn't actually running around. That's going to be very surreal to watch. We'll see."
So you haven't seen it yet?
Kat Dennings: "I have not seen it yet. This is a surprise for me."
So you're a little person running around amidst all these tall people - maybe.
Kat Dennings: "I don't know. There could be a giant me running around, I don't know. They take your scan so you're a 3-D image in a computer, and then I guess they just do what they will with you, like Lord of the Rings."
Are you excited to see yourself in 3-D?
Kat Dennings: "I'm afraid."
What are you working on next?
Kat Dennings: "A lot of things."
You always do.
Kat Dennings: "Well, lucky me. Lucky me."
Well, talented you.
Kat Dennings: "Thank you very much. I have three things. I don't know if I'm allowed to talk about them. It's one of those things. I'll talk about this - I have a film called Defendor that's going to be in the Toronto Film Festival. That's really interesting. It's not a kids film though, so I don't know about this audience here. I don't think they should see it until they're much older. But, it's great."
Cambell Westmoreland - 'Blinker #1'
Cambell Westmoreland: "It was a lot of fun working with Robert Rodriguez and everything. It was amazing."What is he like as a director?
Cambell Westmoreland: "He's a little kid himself. He really knows how to talk to kids, and understand and work with them. We also have a lot of similar interests."
What's it like handling the effects in this and working opposite something that's not there?
Cambell Westmoreland: "It was very - not hard - but it was fun. Just pretending like, 'Whoa,' and looking at something like a flying spaceship or something."
