Sharlto Copley ('Murdock') and Quinton Rampage Jackson ('B.A. Baracus) in The A-Team
Sharlto Copley: "Joe is like, he's like all the members of The A-Team in one guy."Quinton Jackson: "Yeah, he is. Yeah."
Sharlto Copley: "He really is. He's got the boss alpha male of Liam, you know of Hannibal. And he's got the 'I'll step outside and we can sort this out with our hands' if he loses his temper. He's crazy, like Murdock."
Quinton Jackson: "But Face?"
Sharlto Copley: "He's not that good-looking."
Quinton Jackson: "He's not that good-looking but he's cunning. He can get his way."
Sharlto Copley: "He's charming. I don't know where he's from."
Quinton Jackson: "I thought he was from Compton."
Sharlto Copley: "He's not quite as good-looking as the original, as Face, but otherwise he's pretty close."
What did the four A-Team members talk about the first time they met?
Sharlto Copley: "What did we talk about? We talked about the show a lot. It was a lot of like for me and Bradley [Cooper], I'd seen him in The Hangover and I'd really loved him in that. And he'd seen District 9 and really loved it, so there was a lot of like, 'Oh, I love your movie! Oh, I love your movie!' And you're like, 'I hope he's telling the truth because if he's not, we're really off on a bad start.' But thankfully none of us were lying."
How does the movie compare to the TV series?
Sharlto Copley: "I think we very much have the essence of the show captured. I think. I was a huge fan of the show. I had an A-Team gang at school. I had all the action figures. It was hands-down my favorite show growing up, and a big part of my childhood. I think the thing I'm most proud of is the actual casting with the characters. It's an origin story so we're taking a little bit of license with how these guys met, etc, you know, how B.A. got his fear of flying."
What was it like when you first stepped on that stage?
Sharlto Copley: "It felt actually very comfortable, weirdly enough. It felt very natural. I felt very comfortable with this part. The way I got the part was I shot a series of scenes in my hotel room while I was promoting District 9, of all the things that could happen to Murdock in a hotel room. I literally did the whole thing in about two hours just improv'ing and doing different voices and characters, and some comedic stuff to send to the guys. That's how I got the role. It was a very comfortable, instinctive thing rather than something that I really had to work on as such, you know?"
