Justin Long – 'Alex' in He's Just Not That Into You
The video you guys are in about how this is not a chick flick is the funniest thing ever. How much fun was that to work on?Justin Long: "Oh, it was the best. Brad [Cooper] is so funny and improvisational and Kevin [Connolly's] great. We had a blast. We shot it at Nancy [Juvonen's] house just one day, just messing around. It was the best. I love doing those things."
Was it scripted?
Justin Long: "Yeah. It was the funniest thing. In fact, Marc Silverstein and Abby [Kohn] who wrote the movie wrote a script. But we went off script a bunch and kind of found some stuff. But for the most part, yeah, it was a funny script. It was a good idea, and done well. That was fun."
Do you believe this isn't a chick flick?
Justin Long: "I do, and it's not just me being like trying to sell the movie. I do. I'm not a chick. I don't know if you can tell. It's not readily apparent that I'm not a chick but when you get to know me you'll find that I'm in fact, I'm a hermaphrodite. But I watched it and truly enjoyed it, and found that it speaks to a lot of these character relationships that I could very much relate to. And I think for guys, I think if anything it'll be helpful for them to go see it – just in terms of understanding women and understanding relationships. Both sexes are in it together, you know, so it's not like we play less of a part in the dynamic so I don't know why we would glean as much from the movie as a chick would."
What's happening with Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakuel?
Justin Long: "I have not started. I'm excited for the Chipmunks. I loved the show growing up so I was like an Alvin and the Chipmunks. So yeah, the Chipettes, I don't know who they're going to get but I'm excited to start. I have not started recording yet, but I have to do my physical for it next week which is weird that as an animated rodent, that I as a human being would need a physical."
Scarlett Johansson – 'Anna' in He's Just Not That Into You
Scarlett Johansson: "Well I think that there's so many different… Relationships are complicated and I certainly think this movie reflects that. There's many different kinds of relationships in this movie – a friendship, or is it a friendship, a marriage, or you know a marriage that's kind of stale and crumpling or a marriage that needs to happen. I mean, there's so many different kinds of ways to love and I think that this movie covers all of that. I think it feels both sort of classic in the same way as a Husbands and Wives type of idea, or it's also very modern because it incorporates the kind of technological elements of new-age dating."How would you describe your character?
Scarlett Johansson: "I think that she is a very sort of free-spirited characters, and I think that she does really kind of go with what she is feeling. And I think that she really does love this man, this married man, and I think she takes him at his word that he reciprocates that love. And so I think that she is very honest. She's a very open book."
