Sam Trammell – 'Sam Merlotte' in True Blood
You're one of my favorite characters on the show.
Sam Trammell: "Oh, thank you."
How much fun is he to play?
Sam Trammell: "Oh, he's great. He's awesome. Yeah, yeah. You know it was really fun the first year because they sort of made him look like the killer for a while so it was sort of a shady element. But, you know, this year was fun and difficult because there was just so much sort of masochism, you know, sadism against him from the writers. They were just like torturing him non-stop, so really high stakes. It's a lot of fun. It's fun to be in that world."
And next season he's going to be looking for his real parents, right?
Sam Trammell: "Yeah, yeah, I think so. That's what I've heard. He's going to be sort of trying to search out his biological parents and trying to find them, and seeing what their deal is. And they're going to be bad. They're going to be really bad news."
You don't think that's going to end well?
Sam Trammell: "Oh no. No, no, no. It's going to be horrible."
Is he ever going to find real love?
Sam Trammell: "I don't know. I hope so."
I'd like him to.
Sam Trammell: "I mean, he's a good guy. He's been the hero. He's saved some lives and he gets no respect, so I don't know. Then the one girl that he kind of falls for completely betrays him. So, I don't know. I hope so."
Is it weird to play a shapeshifter? You get the first script and you're turning into a dog…
Sam Trammell: "Yeah, it is. It is. You've got to think about what you're doing on your downtime away from the bar. Like, you're running around playing with balls in your mouth. It's pretty weird. It was strange when Alan [Ball] told me that's what was going to happen. I didn't really know that. I was like, 'A shapeshifter? Really? Okay. I thought I was going to be a bartender. All right.'"
And you're okay with the nudity?
Sam Trammell: "Yeah. I've done it a lot. I've done it a lot so it's fine. It's good. It's all good."
