Sam Trammell - 'Sam' in True Blood
Season 2, you're a total good guy, a hero, the whole season. Season 3, we see you have a dark side.Sam Trammell: "A total change. Yeah, I know. Well, this is who I was. Look, I went on a bender a little bit and I got a little crazy - that's just the bender. But truth be told, I had a different life before I moved to Bon Temps. You know for me as an actor it was some of the funnest stuff that I got to do on the show, getting to do those flashbacks where I shot those people - just because it's such different stuff. It also adds a different dimension to Sam because Sam has kind of remade himself in Bon Temps and it is like something he's built. And, you know, how strong is that fortress? How strong is it?"
Sam is so different from Sam in the books. Have you had reactions from fans because Sam is now so different?
Sam Trammell: "Well, you know, yeah. I haven't' talked to a lot of readers of the books. I mean some of them are like, 'What's going on?! I like Sam being nice. He's a nice guy.' But then there are some people that are like, 'Oh my god, this is so interesting. I love it. It's different. It's great. It's exciting.' There's that too."
Where do you think they're going to take him next season?
Sam Trammell: "Sam? I honestly don't know. I'm so curious. One of the best things about starting up is we get about four scripts that you just get to read and just get to see what goes on. I know that they're going to do some really interesting stuff with shapeshifting that we haven't done yet. Yeah. And we're going to kind of look into the myth of the shapeshifter and what it is and the community or non-community in Bon Temps, so it's going to be cool."
And you're keeping busy with projects outside of True Blood too because I see you have a bunch of movies coming up.
Sam Trammell: "Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know I did a movie this summer called Guns, Girls and Gambling with Gary OIdman and Christian Slater and Megan Park and Dane Cook. Yeah, it was great. I got to play this corrupt sheriff. It was fun."
Has True Blood been opening up doors?
Sam Trammell: "Oh yeah. Oh sure. Yeah, it's huge. It's great."
But you'd keep playing Sam forever if they let you?
Sam Trammell: "Of course. Yes."
