Rebecca Murray from About.com Hollywood Movies here at the world premiere of Knocked UpRyan Seacrest on Knocked Up
How much fun was it to do Knocked Up?Ryan Seacrest: "This was the greatest thing ever. This was like a dream sequence because you get to take every little kernel of part of your job and completely take it the opposite direction the extreme direction and blow it out of proportion."
Was it all in the script or did you get to do that yourself?
Ryan Seacrest: "No, I guess there was a place holder-type page but Judd (Apatow) gave me plenty of ideas and then said, 'Okay so now go, go, go, go, go.' So it was a rant and I didn't have to memorize anything. That was nice. I didn't have to memorize."
Judd always brings his casts to his next film and his next one. Are you going to be in his next movie?
Ryan Seacrest: "I hope to just leave TV all together. I'm thrilled to be on this side. Normally I'm on your side asking all the questions so it's bizarre for me to be over here. I didn't realize there's a gate here, isn't there? You're segregated."
Ryan Seacrest on American Idol
I have to ask an American Idol question. Do you have a favorite and are you allowed to say if you do?Ryan Seacrest: "I think it would be crazy to say one name now because I've got to stand on the stage with both of them on a live show Tuesday and Wednesday night, and get them to participate equally. But I think they're both going to have great careers and there's one in my head that I'd like to see barely, barely make it and win."
Were you surprised that a lot of the guys stayed around because it seemed to be so female-dominated to begin with?
Ryan Seacrest: "We thought the guys were going to really struggle so if you look at it now and you say, 'Wow, there's a guy in the finale,' I think when we first met all of the contestants we might not have believed the person that said, 'There will be a guy in the finale.'"
Do you ever get tired of doing American Idol?
Ryan Seacrest: "I do not."
How do you keep it fresh?
Ryan Seacrest: "I don't know. I don't know if we keep it fresh, but you don't get tired of doing a show that people watch. I think if people didn't watch we'd get tired. But the fact that people show up because of this imperfect science that we have makes it fun."
Going out and doing those interviews on the streets is something new. You haven't done that every season, have you?
Ryan Seacrest: "Well no, but we haven't had to fill an hour-long results show every week."
Have you met people who are just totally crazy when you're out there doing that?
Ryan Seacrest: "Yes, and I've met people totally crazy when I'm not even with the camera and the microphone. They're always out there and they always exist, but it's fun to go out the day after and get people's reaction to what we did the night before."
Were you surprised that Melinda Doolittle got voted off? Did that take you by surprise?
Ryan Seacrest: "Yeah, I was surprised. I was. I found out earlier in the day and I was surprised to learn it."
How do you keep that hidden on your face?
Ryan Seacrest: "I actually have a strategy where I look at each one of them for the exact same amount of time. So in other words, if I talk to you for 10 seconds, I'll make sure I talk to you for 10 seconds because I don't want them to say, 'Oh, he looked at me differently.' Or, 'He did this ' So before the show I'll say good luck to all of them equally."
