Ryan Reynolds – 'Wade Wilson'/'Deadpool' of X-Men Origins: Wolverine

I've never read an X-Men comic. How close is your character to what's in the comic?

Ryan Reynolds: "Well, he's fairly close in the beginning. Wade Wilson is the guy they call the Merc with the Mouth. He's a mercenary who's quite lethal. But he's also got a few effervescent witticisms that he likes to share with his co-workers from time to time against their will."

So he is the comic relief?

Ryan Reynolds: "A little bit, I suppose. I don't know if it's relieving."

He's pretty lethal.

Ryan Reynolds: "He's a guy that I wouldn't want to mess with, definitely."

And there's also something in the comic where he does look like you? They actually wrote that? Tell me that story.

Ryan Reynolds: "One of the comic books a long time ago says he compares himself to a Shar Pei and Ryan Reynolds is what he says he looks like. He says, 'I look like a cross between a Shar Pei and Ryan Reynolds."

Have you ever actually figured out what that would look like if you mixed yourself with a Shar Pei?

Ryan Reynolds: "I don't know if I'd want to. I think it would be like enormously unkempt eyebrows. Yes, I think so. I think that would be mostly what that would look like. I'm not sure."

How did you get all buffed up for this?

Ryan Reynolds: "It was a lot of weight training and a lot of eating and a lot of awful things that you shouldn't have to be subjected to."

So would you return to this? Obviously there is a chance you will return. Is it something you want to do?

Ryan Reynolds: "Absolutely. I mean the character I've wanted to do forever so I feel like this is only a brief, brief introduction to who Wade Wilson and Deadpool is. I think their idea, the reason they want him in the movie is to spin him off."

As an actor which was it more fun to get into because you do very different things as the two people?

Ryan Reynolds: "You mean the two different characters I play in the movie? I like them both. I mean it's pretty awful when your mouth is sewn up though. It makes lunch a sad place. "

How do you actually eat? Through your nose?

Ryan Reynolds: "You snort steak. It's painful, too. It doesn't look so good. Your eyes are watering. There's like half a cow up your nose. It's really horrible."

And then you're going back to romantic comedies after this, right?

Ryan Reynolds: "Yes, I am."

The Proposal looks hilarious.

Ryan Reynolds: "I loved working on that movie. Sandra Bullock has been a friend of mine for almost a decade. She's fantastic."

What took so long for you guys to get together on this?

Ryan Reynolds: "Well, Sandy wasn't going to do another romantic comedy ever again. She'd sworn off the genre entirely. This script though came along and it was absolutely amazing and she just couldn't pass up the opportunity."

Tell me it's not one of those movies where the best scenes are in the trailer. Please tell me that.

Ryan Reynolds: "I promise you it's not one of those scenes because we're not allowed to put the best scenes in the trailer."
