Russell Brand Interview - Forgetting Sarah Marshall Movie

with Rebecca Murray

Over 500 red carpet video interviews and hundreds more print interviews, and Russell Brand from 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall' is now the first person to ever make me laugh so hard I couldn't finish an interview.

Transcript: Russell Brand Interview - Forgetting Sarah Marshall Movie

Rebecca Murray from About.com Hollywood Movies at the 2008 San Francisco Wonder Con.

Russell Brand ('Aldous' in Forgetting Sarah Marshall)

It's your first big American comedy, right? How was it?

Russell Brand: "It's ever so engaging to spend time with all these young American people, being in Hawaii."

Engaging?

Russell Brand: "It was engaging. I was engaged by it. I didn't drift above it aloof. I was very much engaged by it. Some of these people who are in it…Jason Segel – lovely, Jonah Hill – lovely, Mila Kunis – attractive, lovely girl, Kristen Bell – vile character. You know how some people believe that there's a subculture of serpents that are operating the earth at the behest of Satan? I think Kristen Bell may be one of their operatives. A sort of serpent-women working for evil."

And you are not talking about her character. You are talking about her?

Russell Brand: "I'm talking about her, the individual woman."

What did she do to you?

Russell Brand: "She bewitched me. And then one time I see her, her tongue was forked. You know how Native Americans say white man speak with forked tongue, meaning metaphorically they lie? Well in this instance, they were literal, a black split tongue – like a viper."

How do you put up with that on the set?

Russell Brand: "Well it's difficult. It's hard to relax because you think at any point she may spray venom."

And did she?

Russell Brand: "Yeah, several occasions. I saw nine bits of venom, nine times."

Lots of hospital visits required?

Russell Brand: "I was in and out of hospital. I picked up different diseases at different times. Then I became institutionalized and I wanted to wear hospital gowns all the time. It was very, very, very challenging for me."

So then you missed out on the whole experience of being in Hawaii?

Russell Brand: "I didn't even see Hawaii. Hawaii to me is a hospital ward and a woman spitting venom in my eyes. If someone goes, 'Oh, Hawaii, hula girls,' I go, 'What?' They go, 'Oh, Hawaii, surfing.' I go, 'What?' They go, 'Hawaii, venom in your eyes.' I go, 'Oh, Hawaii…'"

[At this point in the interview I could no longer stop laughing and gave up asking questions] I'm totally lost.

Russell Brand: "Don't be lost. But you're found also. We only have the moment. All that is real is the moment. Everything else is an illusion so there we are."
