Robert Pattinson - 'Edward' in New Moon - Part 1
Edward isn't in much of the book other than in Bella's head. How does that play out onscreen?
Robert Pattinson: "It's just a voice, it's Edward's voice, inside the book and so I guess it'd be probably pretty cheesy if it was just my voice so they kind of done these hallucinations, kind of semi-visible apparitions."
Kristen Stewart: "It's like how she remembers him, and not necessarily how he actually is."
How has life changed since the 2008 Comic Con?
Robert Pattinson: "I don't know. I'd like to think that I haven't changed that much. I mean, within myself I don't think I've changed. I guess when I'm walking around the street, I look down a little more often."
Kristen Stewart: "Why?"
Robert Pattinson: "There's something wrong with my neck. No, it's kind of extraordinary. I don't think any of us expected this to happen and especially it seems to keep building and building, the magnitude of this franchise. Comic Con really was the eye-opener and it's just kind of got bigger and bigger. It's an interesting thing to deal with."
What have been the highs and lows of this experience?
Robert Pattinson: "I don't know. I still think it's still so young, to me anyway, I can't really claim anything to be a low. I mean, I pretty much live an almost identical life apart from being recognized. It's not exactly the worst thing in the world."
With all of this attention, how do you get anything normal done?
Robert Pattinson: "I never did anything normal anyway. I just get other people to do it now."
How was working with a new director and what was the vibe on the set?
Robert Pattinson: "I mean it wasn't just the director that made this one different. It was so different. We kind of knew what kind of animal we were dealing with. And I was much more of a supporting role in this one. I started three weeks after they started shooting, and I did a lot of my first scenes with - the apparition scenes - which involved doing maybe one word a week. So it's kind of... It was actually one of the most relaxing jobs I've ever done. Chris has a very sort of peaceful presence. I got on very well with him. I had it pretty much stress free throughout the three months. It was great. All the pressure was on Taylor."
"It looks aesthetically so different. The script was very different. It's a completely different mood."
Kristen Stewart: "The tone and pacing of it."
Robert Pattinson: "So I'll be interested to see how it works out."
What was your favorite scene to film?
Robert Pattinson: "I think my break up scene was my favorite scene. I don't know. Hopefully it will come off as having a few more levels than the relationship in Twilight. I hope. It was interesting. It was like a five page-long dialogue. That didn't happen at all in the first one. And it's a really interesting little moment which I think it completely bypassed all the supernatural elements to the story as well, which is quite interesting."
