Cameron Monaghan - 'Corey' in Prom
I'm a huge fan of Shameless but I hear this character is nothing like your character in Shameless.
Cameron Monaghan: "No, he's very, very different. Ian's a little bit more to himself, quiet type of guy, and then Corey is this super passionate, geeky fun guy to be around."
So which one are you?
Cameron Monaghan: "I think I'm a cross between the two. I kind of have little characteristics from both."
You've done a lot of acting, but a lot of the cast haven't. How tough is it to be on a set with a lot of people who haven't been there before?
Cameron Monaghan: "Oh no, everyone did great. It wasn't tough at all. These guys were so good from day one that they got there, and they learned so fast. It was a great experience."
Shameless has been picked up for season two. Have they told you what's happening?
Cameron Monaghan: "No. I can't wait to find out what's going to happen. Last time I talked to anyone, not even a word had been written of the second season. No one knew, not even the writers who I was talking to, but I can't wait to find out."
When you get those scripts do you go, "No, they're seriously not going this far?"
Cameron Monaghan: "It's always definitely a surprise. It's shocking. Just like how people in the audience are saying, 'Oh no, I can't believe they did that!' Yeah, it's kind of like that at the table read. I think our show, that's one of the things we're really good at."
How is the chemistry on that set? That's a great bunch of actors.
Cameron Monaghan: "Well it's funny because we all hate each other. It's terrible. [Laughing] They're great. I love my Shameless cast. We're kind of like a family in real life. It's so much fun."
William H Macy astounds me on that series. Does he go in and out of that character? He's not acting like that all day on the set, right?
Cameron Monaghan: "No, no, he's not. He's very much the opposite, actually. He's like this really good family man, very focused on work. Pretty much the opposite of Frank Gallagher."
What's the moral to Prom?
Cameron Monaghan: "I think there's a few morals. There's a few things to take from it. It's never hitting you over the head with one specific moral. What I kind of take from it is that don't wait for the perfect moment, the perfect prom, the perfect time to ask someone out, you know? Just enjoy this time. Just have fun and don't worry too much about all that."
Jonathan Keltz - 'Brandon' in Prom
So tell me all about working on Prom.
Jonathan Keltz: "Just a blast. Great group of kids, amazing director, phenomenal producers, and it's Disney so it's a great studio. Nothing but love and excitement coming from me. This is my first sort of real big movie and my first premiere. I'm thrilled to be here. I'm so grateful and having a blast so far, and it's just beginning."
You've got a lot of projects coming up.
Jonathan Keltz: "I'm trying to stay busy. We just started shooting the final season of Entourage. Just started shooting it this week and I'm already getting berated by Ari [played by Jeremy Piven] which is great. Having fun."
I hope Ari's actually in it more this season.
Jonathan Keltz: "He is. This whole season..."
Last season I was disappointed.
Jonathan Keltz: "The thing about it was last season was so much about establishing everyone's individual journeys, and sort of everyone's coming apart and then coming back together again. This is going to explore a little bit more of that. But, we'll see what's going to happen. It's not going to be quite resolved because they are hoping to make that movie as well afterwards and take the guys into a whole new place. But this is definitely going to be a fun season. And it premieres July 24th, so about halfway through the summer."
So tell us the worst advice you could possibly tell someone to get ready to go to a prom.
Jonathan Keltz: "The worst advice? The worst advice would probably be just don't bother showering for the three or four weeks before prom. Don't brush your teeth, no mouthwash, no nothing. Some critters, crawlers, bugs in the hair and yeah, no cologne. Why bother?"
Janelle Ortiz - 'Ali' in Prom
Janelle Ortiz: "I play Ali Gomez, she's the best friend of Aimee Teegarden's character, Nova Prescott. But Ali's the gossip girl so she's constantly trying to be the first to find out about everybody else in her school. And we're not that similar. I enjoy knowing things about people, but not to the extent that she does. But it was fun to be able to portray her."
What was it like on the set?
Janelle Ortiz: "It was a massive summer camp. We all had such a great time. There were 11 of us playing sports in between lunch, and hanging out in the trailers. It was so much fun."
Which one of your costars is the practical joker?
Janelle Ortiz: "The practical joker would have to be Nicholas [Braun]."
Did he do anything that got you?
Janelle Ortiz: "No, but I would instigate with him. We would be the instigators."
You did it with him and you're blaming him? That's like throwing him under the bus.
Janelle Ortiz: "But honestly though, there wasn't a lot of jokesters on the set. We've all gotten extremely close so we were all just pretty much like a family."
What's the message of Prom?
Janelle Ortiz: "The message of Prom is, prom is the ultimate celebration of high school. It's everything that you've learned throughout the past four years, the relationships that you've made, so when you're going to your prom just have as much fun as you can hanging out with the friends that you've made for the past four years."
