Milla Jovovich - 'Cydney' in A Perfect Getaway
When you were reading the script, at what point had you figured out the twist - without giving anything away? And why did you want to play Cydney?
Milla Jovovich: "You know, it's funny because when I read the script, I really thought that I knew what was going to happen next. And kind of halfway through I'm like, 'Oh yeah, this is the killer. Blah, blah, blah.' And then it was really only at the end that I realized what was really happening, and it bowled me over. And that's what made me interested to do it because I completely didn't expect it. I read a lot of thrillers, I read a lot of scripts in that genre and a lot of times... I mean the audiences are smart today. You can't like pull one over on them. And I felt the same way reading it, and they totally pulled one over on me. So that's what excited me most of all."
You go through a lot in this movie, physically. How did you train for that?
Milla Jovovich: "You know, I didn't do much training for it. I save my training for the Resident Evil franchise because that's my main action franchise. And that, I'm very lucky to have. This movie was more an opportunity for me to be myself, to show a different side of myself to the public so they see me as a normal nice girl. And, you know, at the end of the movie everything goes horribly wrong. There is some action stuff, but not nearly anything like we do for the big action kind of franchises. I mean, some real, raw fights in this movie that are kind of very not choreographed. So like Kiele Sanchez and I have a really rad girlfight. It's like just rough, man, hair pulling and a total catfight, which is really cool because it doesn't look choreographed and a lot of it wasn't. It was just like, 'Go for it, girls,' so it was fun."
So you're back for more Resident Evil, right?
Milla Jovovich: "Yes. We start filming in September - Resident Evil: Afterlife."
And Alice is the lead?
Milla Jovovich: "Of course."
