Paul Haggis - Director of The Next Three Days
I want to hear about the new movie The Next Three Days.Paul Haggis: "Right. Russell Crowe, Elizabeth Banks, Liam Neeson... A man discovers his wife is accused of murder and the evidence is overwhelming. He's the only one who believes her and we found out that three years later, she's on her last appeal. She loses, she's suicidal, her son's growing distant - a little boy. And he [Russell Crowe] decides he has to break her out of jail. And he's a schoolteacher. He's just a nobody. He's not an action hero. It was a lot of fun to do. Russell is amazing in it."
Russell Crowe knows how to do action, so how does he act like he doesn't know how to handle action scenes?
Paul Haggis: "Watch and in the first 30 seconds you'll go, 'Oh the poor bastard, he'll never succeed.' He's such a chameleon. Because, remember, from A Beautiful Mind and The Insider we forget what a fine actor he is. We don't forget what a fine actor, but we forget he can play against anything. He's amazing."
You know we haven't heard that much about it yet, but all of a sudden there's this big push.
Paul Haggis: "I think this past weekend they started pushing it. Keep your fingers crossed that it opens well."
Follow up Crash with another Oscar?
Paul Haggis: "Oh no. This isn't an Oscar movie; this is just a good, solid thriller."
We need more of those.
Paul Haggis: "Yes, we do. I like good adult movies."
