Kristen Stewart - 'Bella' in New Moon
Was it more difficult to prepare to play Bella for New Moon than it was for Twilight?
Kristen Stewart: "I wouldn't say that one was more difficult than the other. This is definitely a more... I mean, it's a fairly emotional movie. Everybody knows that. It's the one big difference is that she's not...this movie is not about discovery or like falling in love, which is sort of just as - it's an intense emotion, but this is like low. And there are high points for her, too. She's like a manic depressive, basically. To have a character that's able to pull her out of that, you know, it's a hefty feat which I think he pulled off. But for me, there was no difference. There was more to think about. It's a more mature part. She's older, she has more to deal with."
What have been the highs and lows of this experience?
Kristen Stewart: "This is definitely a high. I mean, there's only been like a couple of images from the movie that have been released and they've all been received like really, really well. That's it. I'm really excited for people to see some of it. It's a little overwhelming to have so many people here, but I guess it's a good thing."
Edward isn't in New Moon as much as he was in Twilight. How is that addressed in the film?
Kristen Stewart: "He's in it."
(Robert Pattinson addresses the portion of the question regarding whether fans would be disappointed about his lack of screen time.)
Robert Pattinson: "They won't be disappointed either. I just watched the clip they're going to play later, and people will forget immediately that he's disappeared. And as soon as I come back they'll be like, 'Why is he wasting our time?'"
Kristen Stewart: "If he doesn't go, you can't miss him. And that's what this movie's about is that way, empty, completely dark place where Edward was absent."
Taylor Lautner: "If he was absent, they would miss him very dearly. He's just humble."
Why do audiences embrace these characters?
Kristen Stewart: "I don't know. That's the most common question. We get it all the time."
Taylor Lautner: "I think a lot of the characters are really relatable. I think there's so many different ones, different people can relate to different characters and their experiences."
Kristen Stewart: "It's just like anything else. You could say that about anything, about relating to the character. I always say that it's because it's the first person narrative and you're so very much inside of her head that, I don't know, it's just closer to home. You feel like it's not happening to someone else. Like it's sort of happening to you."
Which is her favorite book of the Twilight series?
Kristen Stewart: "I liked New Moon just in terms of how far I could push myself within the series. I feel like after New Moon it's sort of smooth sailing for her. She's very solid and content and happy. But in the second one, she's nothing. Like literally she's lost. And, yeah, I got to find her again which was... Yeah, the second one for sure."
