Jet Li – 'Emperor' in The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
You play a bad guy and we're not used to seeing Jet Li as a bad guy, so why did you want to play a villain?
Jet Li: "Villain…villain is easy to play."
Tapping into that bad side and playing the mummy, how easy was it to get into that actual mummy character?
Jet Li: "It was easy forgetting just yourself, just go there to enjoy it. You know, the villain never thinks that he did anything bad. He believed in something, just do it."
And this one has a lot of special effects. Are you used to working with a lot of special effects because your movies don't have that many?
Jet Li: "We make a lot of movies and we learned a lot from making the special effects."
I heard it said that Rob Cohen is like a Chinese director a lot. He runs the set the same way. Is that true?
Jet Li: "Yes. In Hollywood usually the director maybe usually has a schedule, they work for 10, 20 shots every day. He works like 35, 40 shots a day. Just full of energy – 'Do it, do it, do it.'"
And working with Brendan Fraser – fighting with Brendan Fraser?
Jet Li: "Yeah, we have a little bit of a fight. Not a lot."
He's the Mummy veteran so what was he like on the set?
Jet Li: "He's a nice guy, you know. Always very serious, training hard."
And you had actually wanted to work with Rob Cohen on a different film, Sinbad. Is that still going to be done?
Jet Li: "We don't know."
And what about your monk movie?
Jet Li: "Still think about. For 10 years already, but not so many people/studio support."
